Through the most overwhelming times in life, we both persevered and stayed committed to our passion. Along the way we learned a valuable lesson about commitment and possibility.
Heather – When my husband decided to open his own soft pretzel shop, I was with him 100%. I also realized that rather than continue my path to become an elementary school teacher, it was time for action. As he pursued his dream, I pursued mine.
I have always had an interest in real estate, spending countless weekends as a child at open houses with my grandmother. I was her sidekick and developed a passion for homes. However, when I decided to get my license in 2005, I did not realize it was the worst market we had seen in decades. Of course, I heard others talk about the downturn, but it was the industry I signed up for and I did not know any different. Pushing ahead, I built my career during one of the hardest times possible. It was tough, but I have never been afraid of hard work.
Since I was 14 years old, I have always had a job. Both my parents are hard workers, and while my passion is my own, I adopted their work ethic at an early age. While supporting my husband’s business however I could, I built mine. A couple years later, we had our first daughter, and I am now the mother of two amazingly compassionate girls.
Balancing my life and business, getting it to all work out together has been demanding. However, I enjoy what I do and would never want to do anything else. Somewhere along the way, I realized there is always a road forward. Even in the toughest times when I wished I had 48 hours in a day rather than 24, I always managed to find ways to keep moving forward.
Kristi – As I collapsed into bed after another long day, I was exhausted. Balancing two jobs while raising two children was a lot to handle.
While my children were young, I began building my real estate career in 2006 during the worst years of the recession. Real estate had been on my mind for years, and I knew it was the right fit for me. At the same time, I still had to support my two kids and help manage their father’s construction company as well. To keep food on the table and make ends meet while building my business, I maintained my full-time job managing a local restaurant.
Those days were long, but, fortunately, my mother was a tremendous help with my children during that time. I would wake up early, get my children ready before heading to the office for the day, work at the restaurant, and go home to work some more after everyone went to sleep. I burned the candle at both ends for years, but I knew what I was working toward – a full-time career in real estate, my passion.
To be honest, I am not sure how I did it all back then, but I know I made it work because I had to. I have been working since I was 15 years old, not because I needed to but because I wanted to. I am very driven and have always been dedicated to success. Of course, there were tough times and plenty of tears along the way, but I never gave up, stayed positive and became a full-time REALTOR® in 2011.
